His Children

His Children

Last November, I had the chance to visit Washington DC, along with students from Pleasant Hill Adventist Academy. We toured the various memorial sites, including the most recently built, Martin Luther King Memorial. This was the first memorial ever erected in our Nation’s Capital for a black American. The memorial was built not far from the Lincoln Memorial, where Martin Luther King gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

Some notable remarks made by Dr. King are inscribed at the memorial, including these:

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."

"We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

"Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a better person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in."

February is black history month. This Sabbath, we celebrate diversity and how the Lord is leading us to treat all people with kindness, love, and grace. Dr. Philip Williams will be our guest speaker. I hope you can join us as we worship and remember that we are all His children, equal at the foot of the Cross.
