Invisible Firefighters

It began on Saturday and soon became the fourth largest fire in
California, out of the 19 currently active wildfires. The Caldor fire
rapidly spread east, charring over 54,000 acres and in its path, Leoni
Meadows. The beloved camp was evacuated on Monday and soon the digital
fire map showed that the camp was fully enveloped in flames.
As
a result, social media was full of well-intentioned reports that Leoni
Meadows had burned to the ground. Indeed, the evidence seemed to suggest
it had – with the neighboring town Grizzly Flats verifiably reduced to
ashes.
As we waited for the official word of
absolute destruction, the prayers of God's people continued. The most
intuitive thing to do is to quit praying when the conclusion seems
all-together inevitable. But many of you prayed for a Elmshaven miracle.
Then
on Tuesday night, after the fire had swept through, two Leoni staff
members were able to return to the camp. What they saw was nothing short
of a miracle. The main structures had survived – including the lodge,
cafeteria and many cabins. A few outlining structures had suffered
damage, including the nature center and some staff homes. But overall,
an incredible discovery! The wall of flames had no doubt been fought by
invisible fire fighters! Another example of the mercies and power of our
Lord!
As you know, we are scheduled to hold a
church retreat at Leoni Meadows on September 17-19. Soon the camp will
evaluate the level of damage from the fire and determine if they will be
able to host us next month. We will of course keep you posted!
But
in the meantime, may we praise and thank our Lord for the Leoni Meadows
miracle and be encouraged that the Lord hears the prayers of His
people.
For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer. 1 Peter 3:12
Blessings!
